Have a 2000 F350 DW, PSD, how can I tell if it has the factory towing package installed. I do know that the hitch is a Ford installed. Is there some number on the rating plate that will tell if it is installed?
BTW, I bought the truck used and didn't get the window sticker.
I know now that the VIN does not tell whether the towing package was installed on the truck. Found a place on FoMoCo's website were you can check out what your VIN numbers stand for.
If bouts21 suggestion doen't work find out from a Ford dealer what equipment came with the tow package for your year/model truck. Then start looking around your truck to see if you have those items. It should then be quickly apparent if you have the tow package or not.
The "towing package" would consist of the hitch installed and a transmission cooler. If the truck has the hitch on it, it should also have the 7 pin plug on a factory bracket mounted to the bumper (the bracket is black, aftermarket brackets are typically galvanized). With all of this hardware on it, it is definately got the factory tow package.
It has the FoMoCo factory hitch with the bargman plug and the 4 prong plug mounted on it. Also has a factory mounted bargman plug in the bed on the left wheel well. The only thing I haven't been able to verify is the transmission cooler coil.
Also has a factory mounted bargman plug in the bed on the left wheel well.
There's no such thing. The factory only mounts a bargman plug near the hitch, never in the bed. A dealer might install one before delivering the truck, but not the factory.
Look under your front bumper for a small radiator that will be infront of your main radiator. If it has lines running back to your tranny then wala. Also you might have an idiot gauge on your dash for tranny temps. The 7-pin in the bed is an addition but is nice to have for a bed camper. Had one in my dually.
