Dash Reboot

Ok - don't know if anyone has seen this one before. I was filling up my truck with gas from a near-empty tank (we won't go into how much that cost) and after I was done and jumped in the cab and started it up, the instrumentation on the dash did it usual activity of bring all of the guage needles up to their start positions (e.g., "o" for the speedo and tach) and the idiot lights came on as usual, then all of the lights went out, the needles started bouncing back and forth rapidly and the climate control system shutdown. After about four or five seconds, the dash instrumentation returned to normal. It acted almost like the instrumentation was "rebooting". Anyone seen that before?

Yep, the cluster was "rebooting". You can see this on vehicles like the Expedition when you put the cluster into test mode. If you're seeing it on crank, you need to have your batteries checked... this will happen with voltage drops too low during cranking. When I start seeing this behavior in my Expedition, it's always been about time for a new battery.

I've seen this happen, but only when I've removed the fuse (fuse #35 on an '04.) It happens the first time I turn the ignition on after replacing the fuse. This also happens to be the domelight fuse. I've never seen it happen "just because."
