Hey everybody. Been gone for awhile. Anyhoo . . .
Can anybody shed any light on a longtime household argument: "Is there any signifigant difference in gas mileage when driving in town (40 mph and under) with the overdrive on (light off) or overdrive off (light on)??!!
My truck won't go into od untill above 40mph, so there would be NO differnce, I keep mine locked out untill I get up to speed and know I am going to be there for a while.
overdrive is just a 4th gear in the transmission. when you have overdrive off your tranny will only shift between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. when overdrive is on it will shift into 4th gear when you get up to speed instead of staying in 3rd. so just driving around town with overdrive off really wont matter too much because you wont be going too fast and your engine wont be revving too much in 3rd gear. when your on the highway you want it on to help gas mileage because the 4th gear allows your engine to rev at lower RPMs.
