Does anyone know how to seperate the braided fuel lines from the filter itself? I pulled off the metal clips but I cant seem to get the lines off. Is there a special trick to this? I dont want to really yank on the lines and potential break something. It looks as if the filter was never changed. Car is a 92 explorer sport 2wd.
thanks

I know that on some models, there are 2 square like windows that the clip fits into. However, this thing has solid gas lines with NO windows. I cant see how a special too can release this kind of line. why does ford do this crap? whatever happened to the good old worm clamps??
I think that the system is pressurized. If you disconnect those lines without relieving the pressure, then fuel will spray out.
I think that most people relieve the pressure by tripping the fuel cuttoff switch (near the passenger seat, maybe by pulling the fuse for the fuel cuttoff) and running the engine until it dies
You have to press the inertia switch on the passenger side carpet up under the dash and then buy the special tool the allows the lines to be pulled off .
The easiest way to relieve the system pressure on an Explorer is to remove the fuel pump relay from its socket under the hood. Start the truck, let it run until it stalls. Crank it another 10 seconds.
The special tool looks like a pair of scissors, costs between $4.00 and $5.00 and is available at most auto parts stores. Crawl under the truck. Bring a rag to mop up the gas that will spill. Put on a pair of safety glasses for the same reason, and keep your face and body out from under the filter. Close the "scissors" around one end of the small tube coming out of the filter body. Push the tool towards the fuel line fitting, so that the cone shaped piece on the end of the "scissors" slides inside the end of the fuel line fitting. Continue to push the tool towards the fuel line, and begin to work the fuel line away from the filter body. Eventually the line will be past the ridge that locks it on, and you can separate the two parts. Repeat on the other end.
Once you get one fitting apart, you can see what the end of the fuel line looks like and will understand how the fitting system works. To me the design seems rather ingenious.
