I am new to the site but have enjoyed reading some of the posts. No better way to get envolved than to post a question myself.
I have recently noticed a high pitched sound/whistle upon acceleration from my '02 F-150 w/ the 5.4L V8. I have checked the connections on my air intake from the filter to the manifold. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the cause? Thanks.
Bill

Is it stock. The neighbor encountered a whistle when he installed his throttle body spacer, and the only way to get rid of it was to take off the throttle body spacer.
If it only occurs when the transmission shifts, it is most likely the serpentine belt squealing. It does sound like a short whistle. Every one of my 5.4s have done this after a while. It is the change in rpm in the engine, the engine rpm goes down, but the accessories are still going fast, so the belt slips for a second.
Best fix is to get a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt.

I will take a look at that, not sure if it has a spacer installed. I bought it used, there aren't that many mods. If there are any other ideas please send them.
i started having this similar problem just a few days ago, sadly my transmission went out tonight. check the tranny oil, smell it, do anything to make sure you can do something before it burns. it'll save ya like.... 1500+ dollars. on mine it whistled as you accelerated. now, it won't go into gear, the oil smells burned...
Turns out, I indeed have an Airaid TBS. I am at odds as to remove it or leave it on, haven't found anything that really supports its use, seeing as the 5.4L is a direct port injection. And since the air and fuel don't mix prior to the cylinder I don't see what good it would or is doing. If anyone has any supportive information to it's usefulness please speak up.
