More Noise
I have a question that I'm trying to find an answer to. My trusk is a 2001 F-150 4x4 with a 5.4L engine and auto transmition. This is the second engine for this truck and it has approx. 37,000 miles on it. The truck itself has a little over 64,000. This current engine has always been plagued with wierd noises. The mechanics, both Ford and independant, that I have asked about this all say that ther are normal. The air filter housing was not completely on right and that has beed fixed which did decrease some of the noticeable sucking sounds. I have just had the PCV valve replaced and that seemes to have made things worst. In fact the engine sounds like a deisel at this point. These noise seem less noticeable when the engine is cold and get more pronounced as it warms up. They are present on acceleration and when crusing at a constant speed. I do tow my boat and the engine runs strong. What gives? What kinds of things would make a gas engine sound like a deisel and what should I check out? Could this be something that I just need to accept and play my music louder?

well it depends, u can have maybe an exhaust leak, some kind of vacuum leak, intake assembly open somewhere, power steering noise, tranny noise, could be anything. where exactly is the noise coming from?
