I own a 93 F150 XL on 32"s but 2wd is not cutting it for me. im lookin at getting this 92 Bronco 5.0 XL it only has one prob when i test drove it. The 4wd does not engage the bronco is in excellent condition and the guy said all i need is another switch for the 4wd is that a common problem or would it be an excuse for something broken. what im trying to say is, is it common for the 4wd to be broken when the switch is still good?
Well I have an '88 Bronco and when I bought it, I had the exact same problem. I'd lock the hubs and when I'd push the 4 wheel button to engage it, i'd just hear the clicking like it was trying to engage but wouldn't. So I checked underneath and the wires running into my t-case where lose and hanging out, so I pushed them back in and haven't had a problem since. Maybe it could be something as simple as that, isn't hard to check either.
Theres been a good bit of these threads lately. Usually its the shift motor on your transfer case . It could be the switch but unlikely. The shift motor can be rebuilt if your mechanically inclined . When pushing the switch do u hear any sounds?Any lights light up. If you can take the right kick panel cover off (pass side)there lies the controller for your shift motor. These motors cost between 350-500 depends where u are in the US. Thats a good way to have him knock more off your truck(call your local ford dealer)These motors (after time) the stops in them deteriorate( plastic) I know its not alot of info but theres a way to check the controller to see if its the shift motor or controller. If the seller is honest ask him to let u check the switch your self, controller next.
In having trouble myself , and after the rebuild of my motor, i went to the local junk yard and picked a motor and two controllers up for 60$$ rebuilt that jy motor for a spare and have 2 extra controllers. Explorer controllers also work-will have to research the years for you . Any more help a search on this thread will be beneficial. If u are serious about the rebuild ill walk u threw that rebuild process, Good luck TR
when i pushed the button there were no clicks or no lights that lit up ive never driven a 4wd before but im sure i was engaging it right and the guy even told me that it might be the switch
Have you tried hitting the elcetric motor? on the tcase
mine had the same problem 4x4 buttons did not work. went to a junyard and got another switch that works. still did not work. came here some suggested that i should try wrapping the electric motor while someone pushed the 4x4 button. It worked. so give it a try before you spend between 100-450 for a new eltric motor.
Cup cake , try the motor replacement or rebuild-motors easy to take off ,its located under your truck on your transfer case. I feel sure thats your problem Not mecanically inclined an auto electric place will help u out call them Good luck TR
