I just bought what I believe is (heh) an 1976 F-250 4x4 CC. It's in a bit rough shape but should be fixable. I was looking up the drive train and found that it's not what I was hoping it would be (dana 60s, NP 205 etc).
So, my questions.. would it be worth finding a 79 F350 4x4 to put the CC cab on? Maybe I shouldn't worry about it and just fix up the 76?
I should double check.. if it has a dana 60 front I'll build it up. I have been reading that apparently there is a chance it will have one as it's a CC.
As always I'm reading 600 different ways to tell if it's a 60 vs a 44HD with lots of mixed info!
Yeah, my present thinking is.. I will fix up the CC cab and do some work on the frameand if a better one comes along I can go with that. Or I may just take what I have and do upgrades as I find the parts and have the money
It isn't too bad though really.. the only thing I'll need to do is fix the power steering and find a front dana 60 (if it doesn't already have one, I still haven't checked). I think the transfer case is the 205so I'm happy with that (if I'm right! heh).
I went driving around looking at old fords today. I found another 78 or 79 250 crew cab that someone is stripping apart peice by peice (parting it out I think). It had the 44HD front but it looked different than mine. There's another CC, pre 77 I found earlier in worse shape, again with a 44HD. I just wish I could find some 79 F350 junk in someones yard they want me to take People in my area still don't seem to appreciate these trucks, and there are a lot of them still around. I bought mine for $200 (canadian even.. although it's getting to be like real money lately!!)
