I have a 1977 F-250 reg. cab 4sp 2wd that my dad bought new. I also have the chance to buy a 1976 reg. cab F250 4x4.I was wanting to use the 4x4 parts and put on the 77 because the body on the 76 is very rough, but i dont really want to give up the frame and motor of the 77.I have searched the forum, and all I can come up with is that it is cheaper and easier to just change the bodies. I realze this is probably true, but why cant i just chage the 4x4 componets over? Are the frames different between a 2wd 77 and a 4wd 76? Thanks for any help,
Ryan Payne
yes the frames are different look at them go under the truck look at the front suspension and how it mounts to the frame look at the transmission cross members look look look changing a body is easy as compared to reinventing the wheel
plowpusher said it exactly right!!! i thought i could do it too and i bought a 2wd supercab thinking i could just throw my axles and such under it( someone told me all 73-79 truck frames were the same so i never looked before i bought). boy!!! did i get a rude awakening!!! i ended up doing exactly reverse of what i wanted to do. and that being the easy way it was'nt exactly "easy"....lol i have some pics in my gallery, wish i had more. good luck dude, Eddie II
A key point reading this question: Deals with the engine. Not that it is not possible, but swapping the body is one thing, but so is swapping the engine. The '76 might have an FE engine and the '77 might have the 351. Which is to say, they are not interchangeable. Just more to think about...
Your F250 has a narrower frame than the F150. As stated before, this will give you major headaches. If you want to save yourself from thumpin your head against the wall go find a 77.5 or later 4x4 and swap the parts.
big_i80, if you'll read the post a little better he states both trucks are f250's. but he did ask about the difference between the f150 and f250 at the end , so maybe one is a f150 or he just threw that ? out there. i dunno. i suppose he needs to clarify for us. Eddie II

Thanks for the help guys. Both trucks I had found were F-250s.I guess I will just keep an eye out for a 4x4, so I dont have to mess up the 77.
Thanks again,
