By Dan. Don't let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you!

Actually I don't get to watch much evening news on any station. I've got kids. I've found another program with much better objectivity than old Dan -- it's Sponge Bob.

Now if this thread is representative of the overall population, then out of 17 posts Dan gets 1 approval, 1 neutral and 16 disapprove. For a total approval rating of 6.2%. If this is true (or even close) then Dan should have left a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago!

Well, that's the IDEAL, but I don't know how often it really happens, regardless of the reporter's own views.

All the rest of the anchors who want to program the people to what they think should leave too.
So, the entire Fox newsteam will be leaving shortly?

Folks, you can't have it just your way. If you want the Humes and the Hannitys and the O'Reillys, then you gotta take the Rathers along with 'em. It's the variety of views, available to us all, that makes a democracy work. I think Dan should have left awhile ago, but you must respect him for one thing: while most anchors kept their butt parked behind a desk, Rather wasn't afraid to go out and REPORT. Was it his ego? Who cares? He was out there doing his job.

I agree. He like most reporters have corrupted the definition of journalism. It shouldn't be "The Nightly News With Dan Rather (or whoever else)". It should be, "The Nightly News Interpreted By Dan Rather (or whoever else)".

Actually Jeff. A lot of those that you mentioned from FNC aren't reporters. They are OPINION SHOW hosts. They don't report the news, they have other anchors for that. These guys get paid to express their views on TV. Unlike CBS, ABC, and NBC, FNC actually has opinion shows and leaves the reporting to the anchors. Not trying to say it's unbiased I just see more REAL news come from FNC than any other.

Please don't tell me I just heard someone criticize Billy O!! I love the Factor! If there's one thing I've taken from that show, it's that no matter how much you trust someone, be it an anchor, you mom, your teachers, check your facts YOURSELF. Do the research and make your own opinions... Most valuable thing you can do for yourself really, I think. Honestly if anybody out there listens to the news and believes blindly in it, they don't deserve the privelage of television. Let art imitate life, not the other way around!

I never much cared for Dan Rather myself... but I'm not much of a fan of many news people...

I'm Rather glad he's gone.

At least at 60 minutes any spin he puts on a story will be less likely to be mistaken for unbiased fact by the average viewer.

With radio talk show and video news talk shows you generally get a good feel for which way the host leans. So you can listen to G. Gordon Liddy, or Rush, or O' Riley for the entertainment value without the naive idea that you're getting unbiased reporting of the facts. But most people don't expect to have to deal with someone's bias on the evening news.

The papers aren't any better. Look at the Washington Post and the Washington Times. You will find them to be just about as far apart as you can get as to how their stories read.

I want to thank Dan for performing a great service to this country. His oviously biased and sometimes downright false reporting caused a lot of people to begin questioning the news on all the major networks resulting in them looking at alternative news sources to get a perspective. Viewership for all network nightly news is down.

Wow,this is amazing!Ok,I admit,I dont watch much TV anymore, ever since I moved out here in the boonies where there is no cable, and no reception except the local channel, but I never thought Dan Rather would end up putting his foot in his mouth!I mean, yeah it has probably been quite a few years since I saw him on TV,I think it was during Desert Storm, but wow am I out of the loop!Somebody clue me in,just what did he do to get everybody to dislike him?
