So all 4 of the used ones I have are egg shaped, hasn't anyone ever heard of grease? Anyway, who has the best repros? According to the Mid-Fifty site theirs aren't perfect. Are the Dennis Carpenter's any better? This isn't a show truck, just looking for the best functional repro pieces. Thanks for the help as always.
Ron, you're probably sick of hearing this but I like stuff from JobLot Automotive. I have a couple of their hangars on Earl and they look exactly like the originals which I did grit blast so I could see any differences. If JobLot is still getting theirs from the same manufacturer, you should be pleased. In any case, give them a call and they will tell you if they are good repros or not.
I've had bad luck with repro hangers (front and rear). Bought a set of rear repros a couple years ago at the SuperNats. Junk. The lock pin hole was too big and the bushing was sloppy. I ended up ordering a set from Dennis Carpenter and they worked fine. I also had problems with the front repros I bought from John's F-Fun Hundreds. The holes were crooked and made it impossible to install since the spindle pins need to be parallel. Got a good set from JobLot. So, based on my experience, I would say JobLot or Dennis Carpenter.
Of course, nothing beats NOS FoMoCo or even old repros. The new stuff isn't as good. I recently bought some NORS TRW rear spring spindle pins and NOS FoMoCo bushings for my beater truck. They went together without any honing and the fit had no slop. The crap I put in my show truck required a lot of honing and I had to keep track of which spindle went with which bushing since they were all slightly different sizes. Sheesh!
