PTO Power Take Off, On larger trucks their is a plate on the transmission that you can take off and bolt on a pto. That can run many different things. Like a pump to lift a bed of a dump truck.
Doesn't have to be a larger truck. It's an option on the transmission, (the hole and cover plate for a PTO, not the PTO itself). You can buy an aftermarket PTO.
I've been hunting around for a tranny for my Bronco with the option. I'd like to install a hydraulic powerpack up to it, with hoses going up to the front bumper. That way I could run a winch, log splitter, compressor, generator - pretty much anything I could think of off it. I'm kind of electrical minded for most things, but you can't beat hydraulics.
