Hello all, I am new to this forum. Just (about two hours ago) traded my 2000 PSD in for a 2004 (new, not used) F150 FX4 because I no longer needed the big truck to tow anything (got out of the horse business). Like the new truck so far, not sure just what I have purchased but, it has all the bells and whistles. The only thing I am not sure of is the black color. I bought it because it was a heck of a deal. Supposed to be 38K, got it for 31K because it was an 04. It is the standard cab (with the 4 doors like my PSD but has no back seats...never used them anyway). Has a lot of power, seems like the 5.4 ltr is a strong engine. Anything I should know about ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The guys and gals in the PSD forum were great and I am sure they will be mad at me for what they consider trading down.....the PSD was just not good for comuting back and forth to work with the way dielsel prices have shot up.
Hey Glenn Jenne...While I'm SURE you'll get some flak from the PSD folks for leaving their camp, I can honestly say my F150 FX4 is as much truck as I need, and that I'm extremely satisfied with it. Even with it being BLACK!! (it looks soooo good when I get her cleaned up)
Look through the forum, you'll see there are many mods you can do to get the most out of the 5.4 (due to $$, I'm running mine stock for now). Typically, that includes new air intake, exhaust, and a tuner.
BTW, this version of the 5.4 is really refined from the earlier ones (no spark plug blow out issues), and the 3 valves helps the engine breath better. The one thing you'll notice right away, is that this is a computer-driven vehicle and that affects everything from shift points to top speed...all can be reprogrammed to your liking with the right tuner.
Welcome to our world, and I wish you many happy and satisfying miles on your new rig!
m1garand1,
how do you like the magnaflow? Which one do you have? Is it loud enough or is it quiet.
I love the magnaflow. For me it is perfect. Adds power, its quiet at cruise with a low rumble at idle. But, when you get on the gas it is louder. Has a throatier, deeper sound.
