With the new valve body, does it actually lock the T/C up when under 45mph?
On mine, it does not seem to affect TC lockup at all. Under light throttle, the TC will not lock up below 45mph. With heavier throttle, the TC will lock up earlier, sometimes as early as 20mph. But that is what it did with the stock valve body.
Incidently, Factory Tech recommends that no electronic shift modifiers be used with the valve body. They recommend that any tuner used should be set up for no trans shift alterations. You should ask people on the forum who have experience with both combined what happens.
Mine shifts quick and hard enough that I would not want any line pressure mods by electronic commands beyond stock. But then, my engine is still stock, so things may change when I have modded the engine.
As for the torque converter - I would like to change mine, but I see no point in doing so unless I have to. Besides, if I end up with a broken tranny and a HUGE repair bill, I'll probably jump ship and convert it to a 6-speed manual.
If I ever have problems with my auto tranny, I would seriously think about putting a manual transmission in. I have a '97 - could I put in a 6 speed instead of the 5 speed that came on them in '97?
Yep. You'll need to get a 99+ single mass flywheel, or a conversion flywheel from LUK, but the tranny itself should bolt right in. You might have to modify the transmission tunnel and shorten the driveshafts, but the pedals, hydraulics, etc. from a a 97 would work.
Does anyone know if any of the electric modules lock the T/C at lower speeds? I do a fair amount of driving that is under 45, would be nice to know that the T/C is locked. I know all about doing the a switch mod but would rather not have to worry about it since my wife does a fair amount of the driving as well.
