It's funny, I see alot of threads and questions like this - but the fact is, if the words "miles per gallon" even come up when considering a Bronco, then you probably don't want one.
jbronco...you are so right. if you have any major concerns about mileage, the bronco is NOT the truck for you, if you want mileage and a full sise truck, get a f150 2wd with a 300 i6 and the mazda 5 speed tranny, i got 20+mpg all the time...and i beat the snot out of it. so when i got the bronco and i went down to.....13 or less....most of the time....i think sumthins wrong though
150 2wd with a 300 i6 and the mazda 5 speed tranny, i got 20+mpg all the time
Really? I had the same setup and never got over 20! Maybe 17 on the freeway. See my gallery for the truck, a 1995 F150 XL with a 4.9 I6 and a 5-speed. I did run the A/C almost constantly though, as I lived in Miami at the time.
well i never turned on the ac...it smelled like a moldy basement. mine was 1990 F150 2wd and 3.08:1 axle..very long-legged and very slow. i liked that truck except it had more rust than floor and it was 2wd..i got it stuck in tall grass on the side of the road once...kinda embarassing
I love my bronco, but am conserned with low mileage. With gas at 2.00 and up a gal, I need to squeeze every dropout of it. We all should be trying to find a way to get the most out of these engines, but performance and fuel effeciency.

Well, everyone is concerned with mileage and aware that if you drive the type of trucks we do you are not going to get 20+ mpg, just not gonna happen. The trade off is that I can load 144 2x4-12 #2's and take it to a customer with no problem. You need to drive what suits you and your job requirements.
well better air in and getting the exhaust out always helps. upgrading the ignition to like msd or jacobs would help as well provide better spark to burn your fuel more afficently. Run an AT tire with 40lbs all the time during summer months. keep the tire/gear ratio as close to stock as possible. stay light on the skinny peddle alot . and just keep the motor in tune along with the tranny service and axles serviced. Thats about all you can do. or buy a car for the week and use the bko on the weekends thats what ive done.

Hell i would kill for 8mpg i am getting about 4mpg. but i also do 98% city driving and i am aggressive as hell and i have 33's on my Bronco. the only way i can get 6mpg is the one time a month when i add 2 bottles if fuel injection cleaner. my bronco runs me $73.00 a week in gas but i'll never trade it in. i may complain a little but as soon as i get in the drivers seat it all goes away.
griff, thats really bad mpg. somethings not running right if your getting that mileage. even when im into it alot on my bko i never get below 10mpg
You know i have said he same thing about 100 times and i have taken my bronco to a few mechanic friends of mine and they all said it is running fine. I don't understand it. they have even offered to buy it off of me because it runs so well. and they were offering me $7,000 for my 16 year old bronco.........
well first off your taking someplace when you should do the troubleshooting yourself. get a haynes manual, pull codes see whats up. when was the o2 sensor replaced last, or fuel filter replaced. how about tune up with copper plugs, new wires cap/rotor and timing set to 10*btdc with spout removed.
