I'm a newbie in the process of finding a F250 with the V10. Curious about the diffeferences between the original and 2nd gen V10's, is it a question of power or reliability.

Forget 99. Better heads/more power 00~04. New 3 valve heads in 05 if ya got the $$$ to spend.

 

Yeah I know, I spent some time last night reviewing some of the older threads from the beginning of the forum and picked up a lot of good info. One thing I noticed along with the problems associated with the earlier models was that there were a lot of happy owners also!. So, I asked the same old question thinking maybe there might be some newer difinitive information like; Ford issued a recall because of the spark plug blow out problem etc. anyway I happeneded to test drive a "99" F250 today. It started clean, no piston slap no rattle in the exhaust, ran like a striped *** you know what but, looking at the specs it was made in 7/98, had a 4:30 rear end and a non limited slip rear end. The trip computer also said it was getting 8.7 mpg. With 81xxx miles I figured if it was going to have a problem it would have had it by now. Anyone the rear end, gear ratio and milage were a no go for me, if I was eighteen and money did'nt matter.....One other thing I noticed was that the cab seemed smaller than the '00+s I've checked out. anyway going down and buying 2000 supercab F250 tommorrow and trading in the old worn out chevy, seems like I go back and forth every few years but darn the superduties are nice and the V-10 is the best stock engine I've ever experienced . Hope time doesn't change my mind...
