My husband has the '97 Powerstroke Diesel, it is a manual.
A few mornings ago when it was a little colder out he couldn't get it to start, so he jumped it across the solenoid bolts. He replaced the Glow Plug Relay AGAIN, this is the 3rd time I believe. Its started up fine since then, but having replaced it 2-3 times already, I want to know what is causing it to go bad.
What could be taking the glow plug relay out? Bad glow plugs? How do you test them?
had similar problem with my gpr. took it to dealer only because it was still under warty. they found a melted wire going from the gpr.guess somehow that contributed to my gpr going bad. just a thought.
A million small trips are murder for glowplug anything. Diesels are designed to be started and never shut off except for maintenance thats why they're ideal for truckers, main propulsion on ships and construction equipment that runs 8-10 hours a day. Save the trips to the supermarket for the Honda. Oh yeah, I agree with 3BLADZ, but I think driving habits are more to blame. Good luck.
