I have been looking for a 400, to put in my 77 F-250, for a while now with no luck. I've come across a 351 C and Tranny today. The guy just wants to trade some of my junk for it. Is the 351 C a good choice for my truck? It's a 2 barrel coming out of a 74 Torino Wagon. Do I have to do more than change the intake and carbs to make it a 4 barrell with the 2 v heads? (The whole 2 v and 4 v has me confused.) Any advice on this would be greatly appricated.

ok first off the motor would be ok depending on what u want to do with it. the 351c was more of a high reving high horse low torque motor. which is ok if u want more of a screamer. most of us with trucks either do pulling or load hauling which the clev. wouldnt be a good choice for. to answer your other ? yes all u have to do is change the intake and carb. the difference between the heads are the valve sizes, the 4v heads have slightly larger valves. my personal oppion would be to keep looking for a 400 much more streetable and much more torque which is really what a truck needs.
it might be a good trade if its junk you have no use for, if the engine is good. you could use that engine to trade something else down the road, or use that engine in your truck until you find a 400. trading parts is always fun, anyway
4V Clevelands have larger valves and much larger intake and exhaust ports than the 2V Cleveland heads. You can get aftermarket 4V intake manifolds that fit the 2V head. As stated, the 351 was designed for high rev power. The 400 with its long stroke will produce power at much lower rpms and generally produces more low end torque.
I have a runing 351m in my truck now
I just want some thing to build. He also has a 460 in a 79 f250 I could get. I will be trading two 15 ft. tall car ports, that where on a pice of land I just bought.
