bench/split bench Questions

I was not sure were to put this, so I decided I will put it in here, and also in the misc. forums
My Question is, what are the differences between the standard bench seat, the 40/20/40 split bench, and the 60/40 split bench.
I know that the standard bench (unlike the split benchs) is in one solid piece, but I whant to know the comforts, and discomforts of the different benches, and the mounting differences. I am looking to replace my standard bench with a split bench because I want to get as close as possible to the feeling of bucket seats, but without doing alot of modifications.
If anybody can tell me what it would take to convert my standard to either one of the split benches, or send me pictures of the different split benches, I would be happy.
Also, what do you guys suggest as the best seat, the standard bench, the 40/20/40, or the 60/40.
Thanks for your help.

bench seats

The number difference (40/20/40, or the 60/40) refers to back portion of the seat. Consider your full bench to be 100, a 60/40 spilt bench will almost the same comfort on the drivers side with the passenger side back being smaller. Since the only difference is how the back is divided, the mouting of these seats would be the same as with a full bench. You'll never get the feeling of buckets on a bench seat but I recommend the 60/40.

From what you've written I personally think you'd be happiest with the 40/20/40 seats. The middle "20" portion folds down into an armrest and is the closest thing to the feeling of a bucket seat you're likely to get in a bench seat.

Yea, I was leaning towards the 40/20/40, because the ones that I have seen on ebay look like they have a good comfortable and useful armrest. But I was wondering if the 60/40 also had an armrest.
And I thought that the numbers meant the sections that it was split into, but is it only the back of the seat, or do the bottoms slide apart from eachother also.
I was looking in the chilton book for my dad's truck, it is a 97 through 2000 ford trucks, and when I was looking at the seat removals, the 40/20/40 was explained exactly like the bench seat, but the 60/40 said that you remove the driver's and passenger sides sepperatly. So I started thinking that the 40/20/40 was a solid bench with the armrest, and the 60/40 was a 2 piece system and had the bottom halfs divided so the driver and passenger slide speretly.

I other thing I want to add, does anyone know what percentage of trucks had the 40/20/40. And what years and trucks can I find it, is it only pickups, or is it also in the broncos or explorers.
Thanks for your help.
