Bench/split bench Questions.

I was not sure were to put this, so I decided I will put it in here, and also in the 86-97 forums.
My Question is, what are the differences between the standard bench seat, the 40/20/40 split bench, and the 60/40 split bench.
I know that the standard bench (unlike the split benchs) is in one solid piece, but I whant to know the comforts, ans discomforts of the different benches, and the mounting differences. I am looking to replace my standard bench with a split bench because I want to get as close as possible to the feeling of bucket seats, but without doing alot of modifications.
If anybody can tell me what it would take to convert my standard to either one of the split benches, or send me pictures of the different split benches, I would be happy.
Also, what do you guys suggest as the best seat, the standard bench, the 40/20/40, or the 60/40.
Thanks for your help.

The 60/40 is the driver's seat slides independently of the center console and passenger seat. The 40/20/40 everything adjusts independently. I just recently switched from full bench to 40/20/40. Most anywhere you buy the seats will have an adapter bracket based on the seats you choose and the year of your truck. Try www.atthemart.com This is where I got my seats. This site will show you pictures of the different styles. Which one is better is all based on individual opinion and preference. In a standard cab, most often full bench is factory because there isnt a lot of need for the seats to slide independently. It's up to you and what you think you would prefer.

I was hoping that the seats and console were independent of eachother in the 40/20/40 seat. That is probably the one I will go for, do you know what years and models it was in. And also, do you know if either one of the split benches is available with cupholders in the armrest, because that is a problem I am having, the aftermarket ones for your doors are too short, because this is a manual, you will usually end with half of your coffee in your lap before you even get a taste.
One last thing, are the 40/20/40 benches available in the standard cab, or do they lean back too much, because I know that that is one of the reasons why the buckets were not available. They leand back to much, and like you said, there is not much of a need for them to move independently.
Thanks for your help, I will probably get these from a junkyard, so will a local parts dealer have the brackets if I need them.

I have a standard cab with a 40/20/40. The console folds up to be a seat and down to be an armrest that has built in cupholders and a storage compartment. I can also lift up the console's seat for another storage compartment. The seats aren't as year and model sensitive as the adapter brackets are. The only way you would be able to match a universal bracket to your seats is if the seats themselves are universal. Other than that, adapter brackets are seat sensitive as well as year and model sensitive. As far as them leaning back too far. They should be adjustable. If you buy any 60/40 or 40/20/40 seat and the backrest isn't position adjustable, then you are getting the shaft. Walk away. Most likely, you will not be able to accomplish this buy purchasing seats from a junkyard unless you make your own brackets to fit your truck. Like I said before, www.atthemart.com , I searched and searched and searched for an affordable seat. This is where I found it. I paid $707.00 for the entire set-up brackets and all. This includes shipping. Excellent deal!

I just got back from that website, and thoes seats do look GOOD. I realy like that one near the bottom right for $1,000 because not only does it have the center consule, but it also has seperate armrest for the driver and passenger, so you can have someone in the middle and still have your armrest.
I am hoping I find something like that in the junkyard, because my local yard says that any seat, from any vehicle, from any year is only $35. That is quite a bit in savings.

Yeah, but the trick is to find seats that are in good shape. Or, it may not matter to you what condition they are in. If you, plan on having them re-upholstered, then you are looking at a nice chunk of change. Good luck in your search.

I am looking at getting it re-upholstered partially because I know I may not find a nice seat in the yards, but the main reason is I am having a hard time finding something that will mach my current interior. What ever I put in you will beable to tell easily that it is not for that truck. So I am going to see if I can find one with decent cushions, have the drivers cushions changed, and get the material to mach what my old bench is.
Thanks alot for your help, you helped stop me from wasting money on standard bench.
