Hey all was wondering what gearing I should do on my 05 Excursion I have 3.73's now and just lifted it and put on some 35's will 4.10's or 4.56's bring it back to stock? Thanks in advance Robert
My 2000 X has factory 4.30's and I run 35's.I noticed a slight power loss from the stock tires but it has plenty of power and low end torque.I would recomend either the 4.30's or 4.10's if u want to stay close to your stock gearing with the larger tires.
Thanks for the info all. I just want to make sure I don't put to much of a strain on my trans by lugging the motor its a deisel but it feels like it is lugging when on the freeway ......Rob
I have 35's on my X with the 3.73 gears and no ill effects after over 10K miles. I had a Bronco (5.8L) with 35s for 5 years and it had numerically lower gears (3.55) with no issues. If you change to 4.10, you will hardly notice a change. My cruising RPM at 75mph before and after only differ by about 180. That may matter more on a diesel, I have the V10. If you change to the 4.1, you will change the cruising RPMs by about 200 rpms, and 4.3 would change it by less than 350 which would obviously be more noticable. Gears will set you back about 750 per axle now with the price of steel. I think you would be better putting that money into something that adds power like a chip or propane or something. A $300 chip and 3.73 gears would be better and cheaper than changing to 4.3 or 4.1, especially if it is 4WD ($1500) I will add a supercharger before spending money to change gearing. The only thing I do not like about my set up is cruising under 60MPH as OD is too tall causing downshifts on small hills. Pulling my trailer at 75MPH is great in OD rarely into 3rd on hills.
