Center mount winch

Has anyone ver put there winch under there truck somewhere in between the frame rails. I saw the setup on an ibex. Do you think a 79 bronco could support the loads this would put on the frame? Thanks

I suppose that would work for direct front or rear excratcion, but if you're trying to pull uphill or to the side, there would have to be an unobstructed route for the winch cable. A much better option would be to mount the winch to a receiver, and then have a female hitch in the front and back, then move the winch to whichever location you needed. Plus the fact that it would decrease your breakover angle and decrease your ground clearance.

Yep I agree with that. Its not like youre not gonna attach the winch to the frame anyway, so inevitably the frame can take it, but its not the best idea in the world, unless you find a place outta the way so you can winch from all angles. Do you have a stock bumper?

Well right now there is no bumper. I didnt want to make a big bumper to mount the winch. I liked the idea of having a removable winch with a hitch in the front as well but if I get stuck in the mud i dont want to lug the winch out and crawl through the mud to put it on. I have enough lift to install the winch behind the transfer case without interference from the driveshaft. There would be a straight shot back and forward but it would take some work. I think it would be worth it in the end. I would like it to be somewhat like this website http://www.red-ibex.com/vector_winch_system.htm.

Let me know what you think

Thats a rather clever setup and simple to duplicate too if you have the room for it and the frame strength. I doubt the guy actually has a patent on it and the bit about using the winch as a "cable car" setup wouldnt work, by the way I'm understanding it, it would try to pull the rig apart!!!
