i am buying an 85 f-150 off my buddy for $800.
it has a fuel injected 302, with glass pack true dual exhaust.
my question is about reliability and towing performance.
right now we are tyring to get it funning. he said it has a bad fuel pump. it will crank over, but no start up. we're no sure whether it's the low press intank pump or the high press. pump on the frame. we checked the wiring, and the pump is getting power to it. so we figure it must be the pump. the truck has a new bed, auto tranny, i don't know which tranny it has though. he exterior is in awesome condition. new paint job, new tires. it is a nice looking truck. any advice that anyone has would be appreciated.
A guy I work with had an 85 with a carbed 302 and he said parts were hard to find and expensive when found. Check a few parts stores to see availability and prices, because no matter what you drive, it will break down eventually, even Fords!

Hello. Since it is fuel injected, the parts aren't that hard to find. I haven't had any trouble finding parts for mine. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I got mine a few months ago for $500. So far I have about $1500 in her, mostly new body panels, paint, that kind of stuff.
To figure whether the fuel pumps are running turn the key to on and listen for a hum. If you don't hear a hum, disconnect the fuel lines and turn the key to on and see whether of not fuel comes out of the hoses.
