poor gas milage

poor gas milage
I have a 90' F150 XLT w/302 V8, 5 speed manual.
Recently I rebuilt the engine due to a blown piston, before the engine failure I was getting at least 16-18mpg, now with about 5,000 miles on the new engine the best I have gotten is 12mpg.
The only mods to the engine was a better RV cam and the heads were bored out .20 over.
Any advice or help about why the mpg suck now would really help,
and any cheap mods to add that would help.

Do you mean the hole engine or just the heads maby the timing is off diffrent cam do you have the specs the air filter may be dirty or clogged low tire pressure or carburetor/fuel injection iternal parts excessivly worn or damaged

A new engine will always have lower mileage until everything wears some. You should start seeing some improvement soon. But I can't imageine an improvement of 4-6 mpg to get back where you were. Are you sure you are comparing similar driving.
Is it 16-18 highway on the old engine, and 12 city on the rebuilt engine?
