actually it just be the black panel. That why i decided to put them there, cause i didnt want to put a hole in the dash. This way when i go sell the truck, and if i want to return it to stock. all i have to replace is that little black panel with the door locks and window buttons on.more pics in my gallery
I used a saw-saw to cut out the holes...the tricky part was getting them the right size (not to big but not to small). The lights come with a rubber grommet that you put in first...then you just slip the light into it. There is no other mounting. The rubber grommet holds the light firmly in place. I got the ideal from my tree truck. All the lights on the back of the box are this style (but they are round). I found the lights on etrailer.com
Welllll. i wish i could say i disconnected that light so you all could see the lights on and off. But i cant....it was that way when i went to take pics of it.
i do have them wired directly. But through a relay, that way it gets full power. When i put the truck in reverse they come on. No other switch needs pushed. The switches i pictured are for my front aux lights, and for the lights on ladder rack (also through relays). Lets take my fog lights, which is the green switch. When i turn on my regular headlight switch they (fog lights) automatically come on, if the micro switch is on. I installed the micro switches so i could turn them off independently if i wanted. like if following a frined that has a low car etc.
Where do people mount relay for extra backup lights? I was thinking of under dash close to where I want my on/off/on switch, and pulling off where my brake controller hooks up. Then running 12gauge wire back to lights in back. Is there an easier way, like splicing into the back trailer plug? Thanks
i just put mine behind the bumper. maybe not the best place due to water/mud. but it works for me. as long as it stays out of sight and not to jumbled.
i guess i meant that it is easy to figure out.
relays usually come with wiring diagrams. input from reverse lights goes on one pole, ground on one pole, input for 12v on one, and output to lights on one. if i were mounting lights on the bumper i would do like climbhightree and put it up under the bumper wrapped in elec. tape.
jdadamsjr- i have not touched a lotus program since college, so what you do is definitely not simple.
Where did you splice into for your relay? Did you run a new hot all the way back to the batt? How many new wires did you run? Sorry to be an idiot, I'm just about to do this though and don't want to do alot of extra wire running if I don't have to. thanks.
