Since i knew i was gong to hook up four light i ran one heavy gauge wire back (directly from battery) and then just tap into that for my hot lead. Sorry i forget what gauge it is. I have already tapped into this wire temporarily to charge trailer battery. Cause for some still unknown reason power is not going through trailer hookup.
I used a saw-saw to cut out the holes...the tricky part was getting them the right size (not to big but not to small). The lights come with a rubber grommet that you put in first...then you just slip the light into it. There is no other mounting. The rubber grommet holds the light firmly in place. I got the ideal from my tree truck. All the lights on the back of the box are this style (but they are round). I found the lights on etrailer.com
Looks great! I just looked on e-trailer.com and didn't see any that were clear lens like those, they only have red on line. Do you have the part number?
The lights are in the trailer lights section and then under tail lights
For the oval ones the part # is 416k for round ones it is 415k I chose the oval one cause i didnt think i would be able to find a spot flat enough on the bumper for it.
i posted the part numbers a couple posts up. i think it was 415k for oval lights...416k for round ones. you may also want to buy a mounting bracket to use as a pattern to cut the holes (#421-09). Or could use them to mount light instead of cutting. i didnt know they had these and just cut little bits at a time till it fit. i actually ordered one myself to check my hole and make the lights fit better.

i really like how they turned out for you. im not afraid to cut the holes in the bumper, and i think it makes for a much cleaner install. thanks for the info !!!
you have to push on them directly in a corner to pop them out. kinda have to spin them in and out (it kinda hard to get them in and out till you get the trick of it). They are used alot on commercial trucks. I have them on the back of my chip truck (and even if they get blasted by the chipper they dont come loose). Mine are alittle to tight i think...that's why i ordered a braket to check my hole size. Figure i may use it to mount light sooner or later (maybe for under cab light hmmmmm)
BTW- the bracket would be the same as cutting hole in bumper. the gromment holds the light in the bracket. same way as it would in your bumber
i just put mine behind the bumper. maybe not the best place due to water/mud. but it works for me. as long as it stays out of sight and not to jumbled.
Pop out the tail light and mount it back there. If you are only going to have the two lights you could get power from the tow wiring.
I just hooked up a couple of backup lights. Bolted to the frame, they are well protected there and throw enough light so I can see what I'm gonna back into! Tied right into the trailer plug harness, Is that wiring not allready wired with relays? While I was at it I installed the three small clearance marker lights under the tail gate, I liked the look.
It is a 2005 option. Basically it is switches already mounted in dash that you can use to power lights, or other after market products that you add to your truck. I think it is 5 switches...that already have a power wire, and relays, hooked to them. so it just a matter of hooking a light to it. Correct me if i am wrong (for those lucky enough to have this :-P
