I plan on doin some liftin over the summer, and some larger tires, not huge, 4 inch or so lift, with like 33's.
But First I want lower gears in the front and rear and lockers. What is the best, cheapest, most reliable route.
Note* I plan on having a local shop do the gears for me, as I have no experience/ability as far as the diffs. go.
Any and all help/recommendations are appreciated.
O yea i was thinkin 4.10 at least, would this kill my highway rpms, i dont want to turn 2,750 rpms in od at 70 yuh know?
Well I put more thought into it, and now im thinkin either 4.10 or 3.73 i dont want to put alot more stress on my tranny/engine, and i dont want to turn 3k rpms at 75 drivin down the interstate. But I defanintley want more lowend power, thinkin 3 or 4 " lift, w/ 33" mudders.
My truck has open differentials on it. So I naturaly I want a locker. I pulled a friend out once, some 4 inch thick loose wet clay, and i tried to back him out with a chain on my front hooks, and i only had 1 front wheel and 1 rear wheel spinin, i couldnt move him, so i spun around hooked the chain to my hitch and pulled him out in forward, and all four wheels were spinin.
When im in 4 hi or 4 lo, is my front end locked out? Cuz all 4 wheels always spin, in mudd
I want the most reliable locker, that wont hurt my daily highway drivin, I assume detroit locker? What do yall recommmend?

the bigger the tire the lower the rpm. like i said my tires werent true 33's(more like 31.5) and i was turning 2500 at 75. at 75 with true 33's itll be lower than that. lower gears are less stressful on transmission. the only thing they might be a little harder on is the axles. im guessing you already have 3.55's and i figured it was only gonna be about 100-200 rpm difference with stock tires. checked on an rpm calculator. going to 4.10 from 3.55 is like a 450 rpm climb. i just put 4.10's in my 01 with 33's and almost wish i would have went with 4.56's. everybody says that 4.10's are way too much aand its not a low gear when you combine it with a bigger tire.
