Speaking of weight cutting… I was watching C&D last week on Spike, they had a SUV off-road comparison test. I was surprised when they said the late model Explorers lack skid plates. I believe all older, pre-2002 explorers have skid plates, certainly my 97 does. In the end, it really doesn’t matter since most people are never going to take there $30,000+ independent rear suspension SUV off-road in the first place.
