Aod tranny question

I just bought a 1982 F-100 with a 302 AOD tranny it is a good truck has A/C and runs well just needs some tuning work when i get the extra cash (with 4 three year old kids money isnt plentaful) but the tranny is acting a bit funny.... after the tranny gets warm whgen it is cold it shifts perfectly but this is what happens after it gets warm It shift fine thorugh 1st and 2nd and most of the time into 3rd but when it goes to 4th it shifts a bit rough and when I lift off the gas pedal it dont want to downshift properly like it hits netural and just revs until I hit the gas again and let off again tyhen it will downshift fairly smoothly. I have a notion the truch was used for towing some heavy trailers it has electric brake a bit of a bend at the bumper where the hitch is. I have adjusted the kick down lever to what the manuel says...haynes not real good honestly though but I did as it specified set the adjusting screw to .004 of drag and then 4 turns after that for adjustment is there any more adjusting I can do or do I need to play and venture off of facotry specs on this..I hate to but if need be to compensate for worn bands Etc I will no problem
I havent hauled anything heavy with this myself yet. excpet for my trash I take to the "recylcing center" rual areas of Nc LOL. any ideas appreciated. God bless
