If you don't want OHC's looks like the 302 is the way to go.
The 4.5l V8 is DOHC.
I just have a personal vendetta with anyone that ruins a good car by putting an engine from a different manufacturer in it.
I have seen that many (insert manufacturer here) with 350's in it.
What generally makes a car cool (and different for that matter with rarer kind of cars) is being 100% original, with maybe a few enhancements here or there - but not a whole engine.
Athough a 302 in a 300ZX would be kinda cool I admit, what spec is the 302?
Our 302's here came with 300hp, and a 5.6l 342hp stroker was available as well from the factory.
The 302 is mostly stock i got out an old mustang that someone wreaked by running into a tree it was free also i yanked the engine before the junkyard took the car and am plannin on doing a full rebuild to with alot of performance parts. The car also passed smog today and now i have to get a salvage title for it whitch means having the CHP check everything on the car before i can even get the plates and the title. the only thing that deosnt work on the car is the headlight so i have to figure out some bad wiring problems mabey it has something to with that wiring harness in the dash but i wont be able to get much for the car if i sell it. so if it cost too much to repair the wiring, the 302 will go in
It is a common swap to put a 289/302 into XKE's and Jag.sedans. Or at least it was common a few years ago. So WTH, put a 302 in it if you can. Then you can say you did it. There has got to be some site relating to 300zx's and engine swap tech.
Good Luck which ever way you go. Can't beat a free car!!
