2 engine builds, which one for Aussie heads?

Hopefully some guys with some aussie experience can chime in I hope... I have two engines I am building, a 351M and 400. Probably both will be 400's as I have an extra 400 crank. I also have a pair of the 302C Au heads.

Engine #1 will be my bronco engine. Powerful but streetable. Looking for figures near 300 hp / 375 torque. (ballpark). Want decent gas milleage, but also to be able to keep up with much smaller newer suv's. Ideas so far are Holley fuel injection, a cam similar to comp cams DEH 255 or so, scorpion rollers or similar, probably the edelbrock intake I already have, a free flowing exhaust.

Engine #2 will be for my f250. I am going to build it to be a weekend warrior. Most power/ torque I can get out of the motor. Not too worried about gas milleage but I still want to be able to drive it around on the street (still want bottom end power). Ideas are comp cams XE custom cam, high compresion, a carb, ported heads, free flowing exhaust.

These are just ideas. What I would like to know is which motor would the Aussie heads be best suited for? The 'efficient' motor (#1) or the 'big block killa' motor(#2)?

Thanks for any advice!

aussie heads are probably going to need you to run 91 octane fuel.

personelly I would put the aussie heads on the f-250 and keep the bronco engine with a mild cam. both 400's.

I think I would use the Aussie heads on the F-250 since that engine will need more power. The Aussie head will really boost the compression ratio of any 335 series engine originally equiped with open chamber heads.

Ok thanks for the advice. I should also mention I dont mind running high octane in either vehicle. 92 is ok, I can even get 94 at a few places. I dont wont to have to run additives or racing fuel in either though.

Any more thoughts? Aussies for max efficiency, or Aussies for max power?

Dude,
Use the Aussies for max power. Jopey nailed everything else exactly right. I bet you'll find after building the 400 for the 250 that you love it so much , it becomes your daily driver - street manners or not.
Also, fuel injection for these engines is fairly pricey, particularly for an engine that won't see extreme angles or hard wheeling. Totally your call, but that money may be well spent on other engine mods or a killer paint job for your Bronco.

All the Best,
Ernie

fuel injection

Hello

Sorry about the offtopic

Since GreenSubmarine says that the fuel injection is expensive, could you guys give me any guide as where to buy them, haven't seen those before and didn't know it existed.

Thanks in Advance
Atli

p.s. I'm just a newbie, but if you can belive half those stories they say about aussi heads, use them on the 250

Sibbles:

Jeg's sells TBI kits that are semi-universal retrofits to older engines. I have never installed one myself, so I am not an expert on this item. That being said, I considered this very mod to my 400 about 2 years ago, then decided the cost wasn't worth the gain. I do not know if anyone manufactures a complete efi kit with fuel rails and injectors for this application.

Yeah both jegs and summit sell holley kits and edelbrock. For the 351m/400 the tbi kits would be by far the easiest, and there about $1300 i think for the kits, wich I beleive include just about everthing except a laptop for tuning and the electronic distributor. The multi-port kits or whatever their called with fuel rails and such are alot more costly and will probably require custom intake mods. Well over $2000 probably for everything.

BTW, yeah, FI works great for inclines and extreme angles, milleage,a nd driveability. But I kinda want it also for the technological improvements. I'm going to try to 'trick out' the ol' bronc with some elcetronics, as I am an electronic tech/engineer myself. I am going to try to incorporate a docking stating for a laptop in the broncos dash. The great thing about most of the FI kits is that with a laptop you can have virtual guages... everything from rpms to ignition timing can all be displayed on the screen. And with the laptop hooked up you can tweak the FI settings too.

Just some more thoughts.

howell and afordable fuel enjection are some other aftermarket kits. I know afordable EFI will machine your intake for fuel rails to have multiport injection.
