Alright fellas...
1994 F-150 Standard Cab, Long Bed 5.8, E40D tranny.
I have a rapid clicking noise when taking off, and sometimes when I give it some gas it slips out of gear, and I have to let it wind down again before I get on it. I've noticed a small loss of power. Has been finding it harder to find the higher gears than the lower ones.
I'm thinking clutch, but I don't know much about automatic trannies... I have heard there are more than one clutch. Seems like it might be the main clutch that connects the tranny to the engine. If anyone is more versed in this area, I'd appreciate some help. Thanks guys, any questions, feel free to ask.
The clicking noise could be u-joints. They make that noise when they are on their way out.
There isn't really a clutch (kinda but not really) on an automatic transmission to the engine. There however is a torque convertor. Is the fluid in your transmission filled to the proper level?
Sounds like it may be the torque converter. Check the u-joints first, but they won't have anything to do with the slipping out of gear issue. You can take it by a national transmission chain like AAMCO or other and get a free evaluation of the transmission performance.
