My 95 psd when I start it in the morning ,no matter what the temp is only idles at about 600 rpms. Is this normal or is there something that needs to be checked.

what do you mean "no matter what temp". whats the coldest it gets? it has to be pretty cold for the high idle to kick in, like 32* or less
There is no high idle position on the 95 MY PSD from Ford that I am aware of. You would have to put that on the motor yourself.
Hum..... Maby they changed it in '97 because if it's cold out, and i dont plug her in (single digits out) then after i start it, the rpm's go up to between 900-1100 rpm's for about 30sec to a min.
That would be exactly what the diesel should do and one of the reasons I had my six position flip switch programmed with a high idle position. The 95 doesn't do that. I was thinking that only came from the factory on the later model SD's, but if your 97 MY does it guess it was not so long after mine as I would have thought. That or my 95 that has never done that has always been screwed up LOL. Dun-no for sure

Hey there Rowdyone, i noticed that you live in West Texas, Does it ever get that cold down there??? Mine will ONLY kick into high idle if it's like 5* out and it was sitting through a sub-zero night (gotta love mass weather around here!!) So your truck could be fine, just never got cold enough for high idle.... mine has only done it once becasue i have allways tried to have it pluged in for sub 10* mournin's, Hope this helps!!
Yes the part I live in has seen sub zero plenty times, actually too many times LOL. I also have traveled and worked all over the states from coast to coast, top to bottom of the good ol'e USA. Spent 9-10 months in WI and trust me the GWE and I have seen plenty of the really way below zero temps and she has never did the high idle till I got the flip switch I have now.

Wow, i would have thought it would have been nice in texas!! i stand corrected.... well i don't have a clue then eather. at least you have the flip chip now, so thats a fix for now. I have a friend w/ a 95.... i'll have him not plug it in on a cold night and see if it gets high idle and i'll let you know...It will be interesting to find out if he has it or not...
I've got a '95 and the only way to get a high idle is to sit there with my foot an the pedal. Gonna consider that high idle chip idea of Rowdy's though. Sure would be nice on these COLD Colorado mornings!!
I'm starting to wonder if it was an option. Like a cold weather package. My 97 has never idled up for me. Granted we have had a pretty mild winter, very few nights below 20.

Yea it needs to be really cold for my high idle to kick in.... not pluged in, sub zero temp at night, and single digits out startup... it's only done it once and it was 5* out....

I guess I need to make a trip up into the mountains and try it out.

My 95 idles up any time it gets below about 35, to between 9-1100 rpms. My brothers 95 never idled up even when the temp was below zero. I understand its PCM controlled and should work on all trucks, of course the aux. idle controller is a completely different object which I am not talking about. I could be wrong of course
I have an 02 and It was 51 this morning, i got the high idle and the ebpv for about 5 mins. I let mine run 10-15 minutes every morning since it usually stays hooked to my boat and i hate to take off with out it up to temp and the ebpv and the high idle always kick in at least for a minute or 2 and then drop back down, on the colder mornings in takes as long as 15 minutes,, thats usually when i leave. Wonder if there would be any benefit to those of you with the 95-97's to upgrade to a later model ecm,, or is that even possible.?
I kind of wonder if its all for the trucks with the intercooler? All I know is I have never had a high idle except the cut off ice scrapper I use to use for high idle put on the accelerator pedal and against the seat LOL, and later since the flip chip a lot better system now LOL... Does make you wonder though.
Right now with how I have the GWE running and the fuel mileage I have upped her too, I will be real curious to see what I get when I get the lift all fabbed up and the 35" tires on her? I thinkin' she will be all over 20+ MPG then. So I think for high idle I can flip the switch LOL. I would like to get ride of the EBPV all together. Then I am going to be looking into a set of swamp 175's and a new HPOP
Now that would be if the 175 swamps will dump peanut oil in the PSD and her run LOL, since diesel has all but gone nuts on price...
