351w rebuild

i've recently rebuild a 82 351w from a truck and installed it in my 91 f150 4x4 supercab. i went to a carbed system. i'm not too sure that i'm getting all i can from the build i've done, here's what i put into this engine, besides all the new bearings, gaskets, push rods and the like for a rebuild.
82 truck block, bored .30 over, crank turned, rods resized, speed pro H336 flat top pistons(supposed to run about 9.5/1 compression) new rings, comp cam #35-235-3 xtreme energy, crane roller rockers 1.7 and crane lifters, roller timing chain, edelbrock performer 351w manifold, 600cfm edelbrock vac secondary, elec choke, carb, gt40p heads, with 1.94/1.54 valves instead of the stock 1.85/1.46. mac headers( which by next weekend will be changed to fms gt40p mustang shorty headers with ceramic coating), rebuilt distributor, flowmaster cat back exhaust, single muffler 3" pipe( again by next week end cats will be gone as well). mallory pressure reg(adjusted so fuel to carb is at 4.5lbs) motorsport oil pump. i guess thats about it, truck runs pretty well, still trying to program bauman tcs unit to where i thiink it should shift, but pretty close now.
do i need to have the distributor recurved? its supposed to be for a 82 LTD, oh and i had to install a spacer kit between the carb and intake, ( for some strange reason, edelbrock makes the front and rear mounting flange thick enough but the side flange is quite skinny i ended up with a leak between the carb base and the intake without the spacers, is that causing poor performance?
what else can i do, when i put pedal to the metal it seems to be sort of a dog. any help? thanks.

Sounds like a compatable setup. First I'd check for a vaccum leak. Second maybe first I'd pull the plugs and read them. See if your too rich or lean. Then adjust your carb accordingly.

From: Destin/Ft. Walton Beach,
A 600 cfm carb is pretty small to get max power out of a 351. The fuel pressure should be mor like 6 to 7 psi. The stock distributor needs weaker springs in it to advance quicker. The GT40P heads should be ported and polished, to take advantage of the larger valves. The intake manifold should be port matched to the heads once they're ported, or even checked for port match to what you now have. Edelbrock carbs are manual secondary, but they have a butterfly that opens up by vacuum. I would prefer a Holley 670 Street Avenger with your setup, or better yet, a 750 cfm Speed Demon carb. Caroll Shelby installed high rise intakes and 750 cfm carbs on the early Mustang Cobras, and got 305 horse out of the same engine that Ford got 271 out of.

351w rebuild

this is where it gets confusing, according to all the info i have seen, 600cfm should be good for my setup, using cubic inches and max useable rpm, according to the tables, 351 cid running up to 6000 rpm, 608 cfm is recommended, considering my engine runs up to about 4000 rpm the carb i have should work ok. but like i said i guess its based on who said what at any time. but on the distributor, i'm gonna use this truck for street/ trailer pulling so will i need weaker springs in the distributor? thanks for the info
