I was just wondering, seeing we have many different people on these boards if anyone loved Garth Brooks like I do, and if they are going to be seeing him since he's out of retirement? I cant wait till he gets within 400 miles of me.. WOOHOO!!!!
I agree with Ken on this one. Country music all together is starting to loose its roots it seems. I don't know how many times I have heard a song on the country station and heard it on the rap or rock stations as I was flipping through. Ecspecially when its the same singer with a different differet music style in the background.

Even worse is Garth has to come up with songs with political undertones....
Early Garth was/is great. Same with Tritt, Clint Black, Vince Gill, Brooks and Dunn... but nothing beats a good Williams Jr, Willie Nelson or Waylon Jennings song. And Bob Wills is STILL the king! If you want to hear TRUE country music that's still being written and hasn't sold out, try Junior Brown. Travis Tritt sings true country to, but sometimes he's too syrupy for me.
There is some good country still available, but you have to dig for it. I find it a shame these days that I can't leave the radio on one station... I have 3 country stations programmed and I have to constantly flip between them because of the garbage.
When I want my hard rock, or soft rock, I listen to it. When I want country, I listen to it. I like most types of music (except rap) but I don't like being patronized by Nashville with sellout songs made to get people who don't listen to country to start listening to it.
I was country when country wasn't cool...
Climbing off my soapbox (I'm going to go get a Coke and put some peanuts in it).
Garth Brooks is a great talent. Not so much for his songwriting/musical ability, but for his marketing skills. (He does have a degree in marketing). In an industry where the average pop-country artist's recording career lasts about four years, he has tremendus staying power. He has the luxury to take risks and reinvent himself. It wouldn't surprise me if one day he had his own recording label and became a leader in the industry.
After seeing 'Garth in the Park', I think he's a great showman too.
But for real country...I have to wait 'til I go through Bakersfield to hear it.

Too true! Junior Brown can just plain "Guit with it" and the Nashville 'pop' artist's can't even come close!
(Ken, is that a Telecaster hanging in the gunrack of your truck)?
