How Much Torque Can Sockets Handle?

regular sockets are hardened for longer life on day to day applications. impact sockets are not hardened giving them more flex instead of breaking. like the others said go with the thick wall quality sockets.

Lug nuts on my '02 F-250 call for 155lb/ft. Came straight from the factory service manual, thats where.

Okay, didn't notice you have a BIG truck. Yep, I'd get a 6 point deep impact socket. I also saw an article in "Circle Track Racing" about lug nuts. Seems they took a 1/2" extension and welded an offset handle to help you hold the wrench straight as you torque the lug nuts. The inspector's use them to test torques before you hit the track. I'll try to scan it and post it. It helps you hold the wrench straight as you torque.

Why are you using a deep socket? If you use a standard 6 point socket you won't have near as much of a problem with breakage.
