How to convert 6 volt to 12

I am converting my truck over to 12 volt and want to be sure that I am doing everything correctly. I have a new aftermarket wiring kit and am changing the battery and coil. Is there anything else that I need to change? I am keeping the stock fuel level sensor and am wondering if I will have to do something to make this work.

As I recall, you'll also need a 12V voltage regulator, if you're using a Ford alternator. Just buy one for a later model vehicle, like a 1957 or later. 'Not needed if you use the GM one wire alternator, I'm told. I was able to retain accuracy on the fuel tank gauge, by (I think) putting in a resistor in the line, under the dash . What I really did is go to my auto electric shop, and tell them what I was doing (6 to 12V), and they sold me the part . Wasn't much. JC Whitney sold me the gizmo to let me run the 6v heater motor with 12v. Buy 12v bulbs all around. Also a 12 volt directional flasher.
I bet there are several posts on this board that cover this subject fully, 'might try a search.

MO51 has the right idea. Click on Search, then advanced search, and then enter "12V Conversion" (with the quotes) in the key words box. You'll find a number of threads that discuss this in detail. Have fun!

You will need a Ballist Resistor to drop the coil voltage
