I was looking for a spare F250 gasser today and found a 1999 RC LB 150,000 miles but every time I put it in reverse the rpms would drop to 400 rpms and when it was in 4x4 it would stall out. It was up to opperating temp. I did not purchase this vehicle yet. I wanted to ask y'all what could be wrong before i get it. Hard to pass up for $8,500
It's either low on trans fluid or the internal trans filter isn't seated right. Line pressure is higher in reverse, so there is more load on the pump. If the pump doesn't get enough fluid the torque converter clutch will drag on. That will make it stall. If it gets REAL low on fluid it could do it in drive, too, but it will only do it in reverse first.
I agree with casey... My transmission droped down about a pint and it did exactly what your discribing. i put in the fluid and wala transmission like new again. hopfully thats all that is wrong with this one.. good luck
