I only removed the muffler it breathed easier little more hp barely noticable. it is only louder when you stomp on it kind of sounds like a gasser. Other guys here have the cats off and say there is no differance between taking that off. I am sure they will chime in shortly.

I removed mine. Lot's of whistle/whine, etc. If you remove it...hang on to it. I hear they are $600 to replace.

Took mine off and I love it! I put the bully dog 178 hp kit it came with 5in exhaust, (turbo back)High flow intake, outlook monitor and power module.

The thing is scary fast and sounds like a jet. Kept all orig. parts just in case.

(I have heard that the "cat" is realy a particulate canister, is this true?)

I am an welder and thought of removing it and cutting it open to just remove the insides, but if it is 600 bucks to replace I will just remove the cat and muff and weld in tubing, but I found that the Dynomax Racemagnum muffler sounds great, I might go with that in my ford and dodge. (Sorry for the dodge talk on this ford fourm) but it is the dodge truck for me and the ford X for my wife. We like the ford pulling the camper and well the dodge halls fire wood better the the X. can't have it all.

I actually talked to the dealer tonight and was asking about adding aftermarket parts. I didn't want to even worry about warranty problems so I just asked them up front and they said they were perfectly fine with me installing an exhaust and that it would cause no warranty problems as long as its a catback. So I am definately not removing the cat. Its just not worth it to me.

I did the turbo back magnaflow. 3.5" at turbo to 4" at muffler. was much quieter than I though it would be--never whistles except at idle. Only loud when you first start it and the turbo vanes open/close--whichever they do. No cat, but having it put back in at first chance. The cat was the most restrictive part of the exhaust, not the downpipe. Mine is an 04 with no resonator in the downpipe.

I have stock pipes, no muffler, and I gutted the cat(punched the stuff inside out of it) and put it back on, so it looks like I still have it on there. It sounds ungodly from the outside, and it is not really much louder in the cab. I have a friend that put a turbo back exhaust system on his truck and he gave me the cat, so if I have to take it back to the dealer I can just put that one on.

I hear it's a huge fine in Washington state if you get caught without the cat.

I seen what I think is an resonator and then the Cat and that very big muff, If I do remove any of it, I will work from just in frount of the cat and back and will keep all of it just in case.
Thanks for the input,.
