Remote Start on PSD?

Quick question... I have an '05 F250 XLT and am considering having an alarm / remote entry / remote start system added. Seeing as how I have a diesel engine is the remote start a bad idea? They say they can program it to wait 20 seconds after the button is pressed. Just wanted to get some feedback from any of you who have either done it or considered it - Thanks?

PS - If you have a system installed already can you give me a recommendation?

Sorry, yeah I tried the search repeatedly but always get the "System is busy" error. I decided to post rather than wait as I want to get it installed this weekend and the opinions of people here are important to me.

I listened to what was working for our fellow Alaskans. AstroStart by AstroFlex. Love it and it works very well. Depending on your location you might find it difficult to find an installing dealer (recommended) in your area.

I've had mine about 3 months and love it. Its a Clifford Auto Start/Alarm combo. Most all come w/ either a timer or a dash-light sensor that will delay the starter for the glow plugs. Lots of them also offer a turbo-saver type cool down delay.

I also have had mine for 3 months. I had one on my old 7.3 too. Love it but you should have someone put it in. I have a compustar and it has a built in delay.

I have the Ultrastart on mine. It works great. I can start in from inside a resturant when i get the bill and it is warm whe I get out. It has the delay, and cool down turbo mode. I'm sure most do. What I would really watch is picking a good installer. That seems to be the most important thing. I asked my dealer who they used and then went to them direct. It was about $200 installed.

How far away do your remotes work? I would like to have one that would have like a 500ft range.

My remote is good for 1000 FT or so. The type of building you are in and weather has alot to do with it. boomer21 is right pick a good installer. Mine had 20 plus wires. inc (doors and locks) good luck

WOW.... 2000 ?!?!?!

And you don't even have to stick the remote under your chin to extend the range ?!?!?!

I would say mine is about 600 or so...
but that's more than enough for me....
if it were more than that,
that means I'd have to walk that far

I had an UNGO installed about 8 months ago and really like it. Mine works up to about 1000 ft. I don't have the security alarm system. Mine has a 15 second start delay. what i like most about the auto start is; it is programmed to run 12 minutes and has capability to be programmed for 24 minute run time, the moment the brake is touched or the truck goes in gear it will shut down if the key is not in the ignition and turned to the on position.

Mine is supposed to work out to 2400 feet. I was told the bottom line is if I can see it, it will start. I started it the other day all the way across the airport. I couldn't really see it that well I just knew it was in the parking lot. It was nice to get into a warmed up truck after a long flight.

I like it.....

Nice thing is the temp setting, I can't plug in at work so when the outside temps are going to go below zero you several choices and the truck will fire up, run for 30 minutes and then shut down waiting 2.5 hrs before another start....

Low temperature modes
23...5...-7....-22...degrees
