I've heard of guys doing the 3208 swap before, just couldn't figure out how they keep the front end together. You'd have to loose the twin I-beam for sure.
I don't know what would be in that tractor, a 4 cyl? Sounds like it would need around 10 speeds to go anywhere.
unless it's a big 6 or a perkins v8, the tractor engine will probably only put out around 100 hp or less, even if it's turbo'd. They were designed to run at 2250 rpm for 10,000 hrs pulling a load, not driving. The 3208 is a good motor, but you need a dually front to hold one up. They are in excess of 1200 lbs I think. They usually only come in buses and 2 1/2 ton trucks. For the money, I would sell the 3208 and buy a cummins or an older idi motor and try that. By the time you get done, you could have sold your present truck and bought a good running 80's model and been driving it already.
I bought an 87 F250 4x4 5 spd with 40K on a rebuilt 6.9, for 2500. I put in another 800 in tune-ups and tires and I've driven it for a year now. For about the price of a good cummins with a tranny I have a whole truck.
ok so i should just get a cummins then? that was my original idea anyway. i will start looking next week ,i am doing this project just to be diffrent. should i use trans from cummins? since the truck is down to frame now would be time to fab mounts ect? i have after market air on this truck could i get hoses made to work on cummins a/c? will cummins run on bio diesel??
went to buddies salvage yard the 3208 is huge, while i was there i looked at acouple of other diesel engines isuzu 4cyl in 1 ton box truck, and a perkins 6cylinder w/turbo igot the perkins going she is really strong, could i make this work? special adapter for trans
