To those of you like Fred who have owned pre 05 SDs with V10s what do you think is the bigger improvement on the 05 model, the extra grunt in the V10 or that sweet transfer of power known as the Torqueshift? thanks, Wrench.
I'm with the Captain... I think for the very first time Ford screwed up and got it just right.
I am having fun in the superduty forum and over on the diesel site with a few un informed jerks who insist that there 6.0L PSD is SO much quieter and SO much more power than their old 99 V10 trucks.. What dummies
On my trip out and back to see my dad in Arizona my wife and I needed to maximize time on leave. I drove both ways and she did the best thing by sleeping and not watching the road. I pushed her very hard for 13 hours and the new gal just kept on trucking. I could not be more pleased with this truck.
We are fortunate to have both retired from the Army and both got great jobs with the Government in the same orginazation. For the first time in our 50 years we are in a position to get new vehicles ever two or three years.
I hope and pray Ford does NOT screw with this gas powered truck too much in 2007. Other than options and extras I want them to produce this power train just like it is for the next twenty years!
FWIW.. strong north to south winds hitting me hard causing a lot of rigth steering wheel input. I 10 is rated 75mph... I set cruise to 84mph and trucked for 3 and 4 hours at a time. MPG was a easy 11.4 most of the time. Best part was out west getting into the ups and downs... she never dropped out of OD not once in the whole trip. My 4R100 in the 01 would constantly hunt and shift on these same hills.
Bottom line... the extra torque and the 5R110 are an awesome combo!
i have driven i 10 out there to many times with a 80000lb rig under my six. gets a bit wild at times."love the chilli in the elpaso truck stop the high up on the hill on the east bound side " this v10 is one amazing motor ford better keep it around the way gas and diesel prices are going i have a feeling they are going to be selling more of them.
fort h is in one wonderfull area. tuson love the grave yard 'here lies lester more 4 slugs from a 44 no less no more."
Fred great to hear you and your wife had a good safe trip and that big Ford lived up to your expectations. The 05 V10-torqushift is the first time in a long time that Ford has catered to the non diesel crowd . Look at all the old truck drivers out there that worked all their lives listening to the clatter of a diesel. Lots of them have told me they would never own a diesel and I can believe it. I have spent 35 years working in pulp and papermills, that's all I would need is a vehicle that sounded like a paper mill.
later, Wrench.
