4 wheel drive problems
I have a 94 Ranger 4x4. The problem i am having is when I put it in 4 wheel it only partially engages. I ran it over my pit and watched and only the driver's side is engaging. The passenger side drive doesn't turn at all. I'm wondering if it is a problem in the front diff or should I be looking at the hub? I was told that it may just need repacking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a normal open differential. if one of the hubs wasnt working, nothing would be turning up front. just as with a rwd vehicle with a open diff, the r.r. is most likely to spin, on a 4x, the l.f. tire is most likely to break traction in mud/snow. jack up one wheel at a time and try to turn the tire to verify both hubs are workingbut id say it is. auto hubs are prone to failure, converting to manual is reasonable and easy to do.
