Talking 2004' 4.0l

I recently bought my first brand new truck,it's a 2004 Ranger EDGE kingcab 4x4.
I love everything about it except it shuts down at 99 MPH.Will a computer chip
void my warrenty? And if not,is this something a backyard mechanic should beable to do?

Yes it is designed to shut down like that to prevent damage to the vehicle at high speeds. Unless there was some dire emergency why on earth would you care to be going that fast?

Yes a chip should be able to reset the speed limiter. Don't know about the warrenty, and one thing to think about is if you change the chip you may have to have the keys reprogrammed if you have a patts system. That needs to be done by a locksmith or dealer. I would Ask the people at motorhaven, they should have the answers.
you may want to post this in the chips fourm.

Helping people get 4x4 Rangers to go faster than the built in limiter allows is just helping do Mr. Darwin's work.

Smile 2004 RANGER 4x4 FX

My truck does the same thing, some where after 90. Went that fast once just to see if it would shut down. The truck will cruise at 85 to 90 all day. Never want o go over that any way. A chip would be nice for low speed acceleration, but I would not want to drive a ranger (any of them) in the at 100mph

But thats just my 2 cents...

unless you live in Germany, why do you need to go 100 MPH.......in a Ford Ranger?
