302 oil slinger

I am rebuilding a 1979, 302 engine. The engine is out of a mustang and is going in a '79 F100. My problem is this, when I disassembled the engine for rebuild I don't remember removing the oil slinger, I disassembled the engine several months ago, I am now reassembling the engine and I have conflicting information in the books I am using, Chilton and Haynes. I don't know if this makes a difference but the timing chain cover has the outside installation seal. Has anyone ran accross this and what is reccommended?
