Here's the problem. I work at a hospital and there is constuction going on, this leaves parking space at a premium. A memo was sent out to employees to "remind" then to only park in the designated areas (furthest from the hospital and poorly lit at night). If employees are seen parking in non-designated areas, their paycheck will be withheld and will have to be picked up at the CEO's office and face "disciplinary action".
Ok, I understand good customer/patient service, and they should not have to hunt around for a parking spot. On the other hand, my truck has been broken into before when parked in the proper area. I work 2nd shift, and have been parking in a "doctor's only" spot for a while because these spots are always available by the time I show up for work (2:30 pm) and they are bright lights in this area.
So, I think I (and other employees) should be allowed to park in this area because the doctors are not using all the spots after 1st shift and it doesn't interfere with patient parking.
if the spots arent being used anyway dont see a problem. i am willing to bet that the people who made them parking rules park really close and in a well lighted area.
I would have to question liability issuses. Not yours, theirs. If my truck was parked on hospital grounds and got broken into, and I had a police report to verify it,then when I got called into the ceo`s office,I would explain the situation to him.I doubt he wants all the employees to find out that the management doesnt care if the employees cars get broken into.
They don't care, believe me. There was a wave of break ins for a while, we started a "neighborhood watch", anytime someone went out for lunch, we would ask them to take a look at our vehicles because we thought the "security" guards were in on it. I do have a police report and was thinking the same thing. If they call me in I'm taking it with me. Of couse the CEO's beemer is 2 steps from the door with covered parking!
Having worked in a hospital myself for 12 years, I can see your predicament. The hospital administration will do monkey flips for doctors, because they are what bring the revenue to the hospital. If they do not hold those "Doctor's Only" spots open , employees will start using them during all shifts. Once employees see the Doctors Only space not being enforced, they will soon ignore the sign all together. If just ONE doctor comes in during a callback and has to park 50 ft. extra away , admin WILL hear about it. Its all about money, PR /patient relations , and letting employees be on the bottom of the list, because in the world of hospital politics, employees are readily replaceble, doctors are not. jmo
Would hate to have a low life break in to my truck. See if there can be more security added and look into an alarm system if it will help. Good luck in protecting your truck! I feel bad for your situtation, I would really hate to be in it.

I hear that, but I don't think that applies in this case. The area I want to park in is for 9-5 docs with offices connected to the hospital. Also only about 15 of the spots are Dr's only, there's about another 15 spots for managers, and most of them are gone by 5. So I think I will park in the proper area until about 6pm (about the time it's starts to get dark) and then move to the good spot. What are they gonna do, fire me!
if it was me I'd tell the administrators that, the parking conditions are unsafe and that if anything happens to you or your car then you'll hold them responsible. if you are afraid to confront your ceo, you can alway try to get the local news involved, once they get invovled things ussally change quickly, bad publicity makes people change their minds quickly

Well, when you suspect the security to be part of the problem, more of them wouldn't help
What we really need is a fenced in area for employees with a maned booth with access to those with ID only and security cameras. But that's just a dream!
Well one thing to do is to type up a memo and post it where most staff and employees will see it , concerning the safety of this parking area, add abattorney's name to contact, this might get their attention, but i would leave my name off of it, and see if this gets any results.
My truck was broken into at school, in one of the lots that was farther from the main buildings but still within sight. My school is in a horrible area and three students last term were mugged at gunpoint. There has been a lot of talk between students about trying to get the CCW ban lifted on our campus since the school only allows students to park in the lot behind the dorms or one of 20 or so spaces behind the academic building. The president of the university is CONSTANTLY sending out campus memos that we don't have a security problem... he's such a liar! They come up with all sorts of technicalities to say the break ins were not on school property (we don't own the sidewalk??). So I can see an uphill battle for you, my friend. Sadly, if you try to talk and reason with them, I can see them looking for your car parked "illegally"... and they're not going to be afraid of you holding them responsible because they've probably got some clause about parking being your own responsibility anyway. You need some really dramatic female employees to become very vocal about it... Too bad nobody ever breaks in to the managers or doctors cars... they'd be singing a different tune if it happened to them!
