Hard Starting

I have an 86 F150 302 C6 eecIV 2wd 175,000. When the truck is cold the only way to start it is to floor it and crank it forever. If I give it no gas it acts like it's flooded, as in raw fuel spraying out the exhaust. When it's hot it fires right up. All new fuel filters, new external fuel pump. I'm not sure if the in tank pump is original. After I finally get it started it runs like a cold alky engine, sound like its not hitting all the cylinders pretty much just misses REALLY bad. Any ideas what is wrong??

[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON 12-Aug-01 AT 08:16 PM (EST)[/font][p]It sounds very similar to a problem I had several years ago with mine. It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulation valve. It's kinda hard to get to, but not that expensive or hard to replace.

Did you, by chance, notice worse than the normally bad gas mileage before this started?

I pulled a lean signal code with my scanner, the high pressure pump went out and I replaced it. Ever since I replaced the pum my truck has semmed to run a little rich. As far as gas mileage, it's more like mile gasage. I'll test the regulator with a vac pump, and let you know what happens.

You might also check the air bypass valve. They can get gummed up with carbon and cause problems with cold engines. Just pull it off and clean it with choke cleaner. That was my problem.
