Anyone have any experience with the parking brake on an 89' F150 4x4. I have replaced both rear slave cylinders, shoes, and drums replaced brake fluid and bleed the lines. Also replaced the rear parking brake cables. Overall the brakes work very well when driving and the parking brake will hold the truck from rolling forward, but not backwards. If the truck is facing uphill it will ease backwards. I wonder if maybe the front cable is stretching as it does barely hold if I really step on the parking brake.
Does your year model have the limiter hook or the automatic scheme. If you have the limiter type, look at how close the limiter hook is to the equalizer (holds the two cables for left and right). If the limiter rests on the equalizer, you gotta replace the the hook. If not, tighten it up about 6 turns and test. If good great, else tighten 6 more, etc.... About the auto scheme, afraid I can't help on that one. I can't remember when they switched from the limiter to the auto.

It's ugly, but then it is a hauler!
Most vehicles I've owned, never held very well in reverse with the parking brake. Haven't you ever forgot to take the parking brake off, backed up, and went to take off and it wouldn't move forward? Try what the other guys said, but I still wouldn't expect equal performance in both directions.
I pulled of the hubs and verified operation, all looked ok. i did look at the adjuster on the equlizer and it is at max adjustment. and the limiter hook is about 1/2 from the end. I think this is the problem. I checked the local parts shop but they didn't stock it. I will go to the ford store and get one.
Thanks for all the info. I will let you know what happens.
