Another question for the 79 camper special with the 400, C6 and np203- When I am accelerating at high speeds, then release the gas the truck shakes very badly almost like there are driveline angle issues, but I can give it some quick gas several times while decelerating and the shaking will stop. It also happens when I am going down a hill and I lay off the gas. Reving it up a few times again tends to stop it. I don't think it is drivelines because I have had those vibrations and they are not at the high speeds I am at. I have been told it may be a bad torque converter, but not for sure. The tranny only has about 15,000 miles on her but could it be this or the transfer case, or the torque converter?
Not sure if you have one or not, but my 85 F-250 was having a similar occasional high speed vibration, the right combo of gas and release or a bump in the road could start or stop it. My center carrier bearing(2 piece driveshaft) was trashed, had a lot of play, replaced it 2 days ago, and now it's nice and smooth.
Everything is bolted on tight and when I rebuilt the engine last year I went over the tranny and tranfer case too and there were no visible cracks. The only thing I did not really touch was the torque converter and I don't really know what the symptoms are of a bad one. I have 1 piece drivelines and there is no play in them.
