Who's blowing smoke . . . and when?
Hi all,
Just curious about something as I am trying to determine if I have a problem or not. I see other diesels in my city, and on the net, etc., etc. billow some serious black smoke when tromped on. Do all of your trucks punch out thicker, blacker smoke when you put your foot down?
I ask this because my truck doesn't, at all. Not sure if this means I have a problem (poor fuel delivery maybe) or what.
Cheers!

If I lock my T/C up at like 2-3 MPH and then lay my foot into it real hard then it will roll some smoke, but once the turbo spools up it's all gone.
all that black smoke is caused my lack of air, and excess fuel. most likely the trucks you are seeing have a custom chip in them that is delivering the extra fuel and creating the black smoke. a stock truck with a cat on it will prolly never smoke. so most likely your truck is fine and dandy. what are the specs on it BTW.

Very little to none on mine when I punch it. Im running a stock truck with a Ford AIS and will be changing the exhaust out in a few months. Most noticible at night when a car is behind me back lighting the view. Not really looking for a big cloud anyway since this truck is going to remain fairly stock.

Since I have the Edge EZ1000 and have it set all the time now on position 2 and I have the flip switch and can change it at will inside the cab. I huff a little smoke when say like running 55 in over drive with the flip switch on position 5 and have the torque converter locked up and just easy into her. You can see the two stacked chips put the fuel to her and before the turbo spools up enough to add the extra air she is huffing LOL. Not bad yet, I am going to add 35" tires soon as I get the stuff made up for the shackle reversal and lift for the front end. Figure the extra 2" taller tires will help the huffing too...

With all my mods and with the 6-gun on lvl 6 I can mash it from idle or if I am at a point where the convertor is unlocked and its rolling slowly down the road at idle RPM...I can mash it and the fuel dumps in before the turbo reacts and it will put out a decent grey cloud for about 20 feet. My Father's stock truck with a Superchip programer on the middle setting does not smake at all.

With the predator on the 40hp setting roll the throttel on after lock up about 45mph and a nice black puff of smoke clears up about 70 mph> But on the 100hp setting you can have some REAL fun when you mash it from a dead stop if it hooks up (No tire spin) the smoke just bellers out but if i break the tires loose which is real easy not much left of the steeltexes hehehe it wont get the dark black just light grey but lots of it. Never used the 100 hp setting above

At a steady cruise on the freeway, I let out the slightest wisp of smoke. As I roll into the throttle, the fuel comes on slightly before the propane, so there's a little smoke briefly, then it clears. If I mash the throttle right after the torque convertor locks, it belches a cloud that will shut down the freeway.
It smokes a lot more now that I have a Tony Wildman chip. When I was running a Diablo Delta, it was more of a haze. Now, it's legitimate smoke.
